What a Journey, 2022!
As the New Year approaches, we'd like to say a thousand thanks to our team, our advisors, our users, our families and our friends. Without you, none of this would be possible.
At the end of November 2021, we began the development of Futa. After six months of development, we launched the first version of the application: an in-store payment processor.
In the first two weeks, fifty (50) consumers and ten (10) shops are testing the application, but there's a problem: the shops don't sell a variety of products that will satisfy these consumers, and they're not close to them. And the new businesses we're approaching are skeptical about adopting mobile money as a means of payment.
Consumers, on the other hand, appreciate the simplicity of the application and want to use it to send money to their loved ones. Over the next two weeks, we talked with them to understand their needs and came to the conclusion that it would be better to suspend the merchant version and go back to developing a consumer version. After 4 months of development, in October 2022 we organize a private test with a hundred beta users to test the new Futa application.
At the end of November 2022, we made it public. Cameroon's population finally has a practical and secure means of payment. In this new version, we've maintained the simplicity of the first and added gamification to offer our users a payment application that's both efficient and fun. What's more, for the first time, they'll be able to make payment requests to themselves.
On December 31, 2022, one (1) month after our launch, we are pleased to announce that we have exceeded 1,500 transactions processed with a value of nearly 20 million FCFA. We have over 500 users who trust us, 4 advisors who guide us and nearly 10 brand ambassadors who support us. What makes us even prouder is that we've achieved all this with a team of just 10 people, but a very dynamic and determined one.
Our mission for 2023 is to standardize the simplicity, speed and security of payments in Africa, particularly in Cameroon. This shouldn't just be reserved for Western populations and individuals of a certain social class or age on the continent. Everyone in Africa needs to be able to send and receive money and manage their finances without constraints.
